Since its inception in 1990, the goal of the Patuxent River RFC (Pax Rugby), a 501(c)(7) club, has been to promote the sport of rugby and provide a fun and safe field of competition for all those interested in the sport, both athletes and non-athletes alike. Our Men's team is the driving force for promoting the sport of rugby in Southern Maryland and the charter club within the Southern Maryland Rugby Football Association (SMRFA), a 501(c)(3) organization. Pax Rugby is currently a senior men's club (D-IV) with competitive membership within the Capital Rugby Union (CRU), Mid-Atlantic Senior Men's Division IV Central.
In 2006, Pax Rugby finished as the Southern D-III Division Champions for the Potomac Rugby Union (now the CRU).
In 2009, we were proud to announce the beginning of a youth, co-ed, touch rugby program. This program is open to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 and promotes teamwork and friendly competition, while teaching the kids the fundamentals of rugby and the comraderie and friendship that rugby fosters the world over. After five seasons, we have grown to over 85 children.
We work with local elementary schools and the Calvert County and St Mary’s County Park system’s to teach the fundamentals of the game of rugby. We also help coach the college rugby clubs within the county. Our teams are made up of servicemen, teachers, police officers, firefighters, business owners, and other hard working and devesatatingly handsome members of our community.
Lastly, in March 2015, our women's team came back into play and has grown to impressive heights over the last two years. The team is made up of servicewomen, teachers, civil servants, firefighters, business oweners and other hard working members of our community.
