Pax Women's Rugby

High energy and fast paced, the Women's Rugby Team is an important branch of the Pax River RFC. We offer the women of Southern Maryland a chance to develop leadership and teamwork skills as they strive to achieve something larger than themselves. We were reestablished in 2015 with a commitment to providing the highest quality rugby experience for our members, families and sponsors both on the pitch and in our community. Our team is made up of servicewomen, teachers, civil servants, firefighters, business owners and neighbors.

What our players have to say about Pax River Rugby

"I am incredibly grateful to have the Pax River team. We are a new team, and most of the players are learning rugby for the first time. One of the most satisfying parts of rugby is watching someone else fall in love with the sport the way I did. I get to see so many of my teammates light up with the thrill of expertly knocking someone to the ground. Since we are such a new team, the only thing we ask of our rookies is enthusiasm, and we can show you the rest. Rugby is a family, and the Pax River team has become mine."

"I like rugby because you are never alone. Once you join the team you have a sisterhood that is always there to push you to be a better person on and off the field."

"I play rugby because it provided me with a sense of family when I needed it the most. I have learned discipline and to never give up. I have discovered that my body, even though it's little, is strong and powerful and that this is something to be proud of."

"I've played rugby for several years now, having started in high school to try something new, and nearly immediately fell in love with the game. There are so many great things I love about this sport. It's physically and mentally challenging, it gave me an outlet when I didn't know what else to do with myself, and there is always something new to learn or work on.  But above all is the camaraderie. It's 15 as 1, and you're never alone on or off the pitch."

"The Riveters are an encouraging bunch. In a world where women are constantly putting each other down and wishing for failure, we are celebrating everyone's strengths and are motivated to improve as a TEAM. The day I walked out on the pitch the first time, I was scared that I would be judged not only for my physique but for my lack of knowledge about the sport. Instead, I was greeted with open arms by a group of women that I now call my sisters."
